Go early. This place can get crowded super fast, as the main parking lot has limited spaces. You may opt to park in the middle checkpoint and walk to the main area, if you don't want to or if you can…minimize940314的完整评论
I visited the Hot Springs in about 1960, and now want to write about my experience there. At that time there were murals in the ruined motel rooms--I think there were about 6-8 rooms--and we entered a room late at night, with a flashlight. It was a batcave, and the bats flew out the door past us by the hundreds. My question is about the murals that were painted on the walls some time in the 1930's, as I recall: do you know the name of that itinerant muralist? The subject of the murals--were there cowboys, Indians, Mexicans? Or mostly landscapes of the desert and mountains? Were there murals in all the rooms, as I remember it? Or only some of them? Whatever you can tell me about the murals--or about the hot spring, for that matter, if it isn't listed here--would be so much appreciated. Oh, yes, what kind of bats would they have been?

I am so sorry I just now noticed this question. I do not know the name of the muralist.....and while there was some left in at least one main room, perhaps the eating area or check in area, I just don't remember murals in the rooms. No doors - much was crumbling and totally exposed to the elements. May I suggest calling the ranger line for Big Bend National Park and asking. I bet they would know. Certainly they would be able to name the lady who ran the hotel. No bats at all because all doors and windows were gone. But again, a ranger could tell you what types of bats live in Big Bend. I believe you can pull up photos on the internet of the hot spring. (432) 477-2251 The website probably has photos too; and may identify the type of bats. Good luck!
