Galopin Des Champs has been denied a third straight win in horse racing’s Cheltenham Gold Cup after he was beaten by Inothewayurthinkin in the prestigious jumps race in England.

Inothewayurthinkin won the Cheltenham Gold Cup as Galopin Des Champs was denied a historic hat-trick. The 15-2 winner, ridden by Mark Walsh for trainer Gavin Cromwell and owner JP McManus, charged clear up the hill to beat the gallant two-time victor by six lengths, with Gentlemansgame in third.

Inothewayurthinkin galloped on strongly up the hill to deny Galopin Des Champs a famous Boodles Cheltenham Gold Cup hat-trick.

So, not only has Willie Mullins won the first four races of the day, won the leading trainer gong again and matched his record of 10 wins at the Festival, he’s about to go for a dollop of history in the Gold Cup. As weeks go, that’s half decent.

A winning time around 11 seconds quicker than the following hunters' chase equates to a time performance almost three stone superior to that of Wonderwall (141), and therefore Inothewayurthinkin has to be rated one of the better Gold Cup winners of the past decade.
