2004年3月30日中国上海——IBM有史以来最轻最薄的ThinkPad笔记本电脑——ThinkPad X40今天在中国轻盈上市。X40的诞生，为轻薄型笔记本电脑在便携性、电池寿命，以及移动能力等诸多方面设立了新的标准。经过全新设计的ThinkPad X40仅重1.23公斤(1)，最薄处只有2.1厘米。

从2005年收购IBM全球PC业务开始，联想的成长史在很大程度上就是一部并购史。这家从中关村起步的公司，通过一系列大规模收购，将IBM的PC、服务器，以及摩托罗拉 手机等昔日巨头的资产纳入版图，迅速登顶全球PC市场，并跻身世界500强。
