Tesla CEO Elon Musk said Wednesday that the company will discontinue production of the Model S and Model X, reducing the lineup to essentially three vehicles. So, what's next?

The Tesla Model Y was once again the top-selling EV in the United States last year, with an estimated 317,800 units sold. In the crossover segment, it was followed by the Chevrolet Equinox EV at 57,945 units.

The company announced it was ending production of its higher-end Model S and Model Y, and turning that production space over to making humanoid robots.

We can still remember reading the reviews from 2012. Like it or not, the Tesla Model S was pivotal in making EVs gain mass-market appeal, not just in America, but worldwide. It helped that it was a hugely competent car and practically set the baseline for EVs in the coming years.

For the first time since Tesla launched the Model 3 in China in 2019, another automaker has outsold it in the premium electric sedan segment.
