Murmansk region governor has declared a state of emergency following prolonged power outages caused by the failure of electricity transmission towers, some dating back to 1966, as workers battle harsh Arctic conditions to restore supply.

Russian authorities on Sunday declared a state of emergency in the northern Murmansk region after a major electricity grid failure due to bad weather, cutting power supply to thousands of households.

The US used a cyberattack to turn off power in Caracas during the raid to seize Maduro. The US grid is also vulnerable to this kind of attack.

Nigeria was plunged into widespread darkness on Friday following the collapse of the national electricity grid, the first such incident recorded in 2026.
