Google first brought attention to this "People" tab update during the March feature drop for Pixels almost two weeks ago. The company stated users can share where they are with "trusted contacts," and that point can be viewed on a map on their phone or tablet. All Android users should see this update, though.

In the app on Android, you can tap the new People tab to show the locations of any contacts that are sharing their location with you. You can also switch to a tab that shows who you’re sharing your location with and gives you options such as changing the duration you share your location with someone.

Google's Find My Device app has received an update that allows location sharing with friends and family. The update is powered by Google Maps, so if you've already set up location sharing there, you will see friends and family in the app.
