The Aam Aadmi Party lost the 2025 Delhi assembly election to the BJP amid corruption allegations, with their seat count dropping from 62 to 22.

The BJP’s Parvesh Verma defeated Kejriwal, in a seat the AAP chief had won three times since 2013, by 4,089 votes. The Congress candidate, Sandeep Dikshit, got 4,568 votes in the New Delhi seat to finish third. In 2013, Kejriwal had defeated Dikshit’s mother Sheila Dikshit to end her reign as CM.

Building its campaign on allegations of corruption against the AAP and banking on “freebies”, the BJP’s 2025 win minimally reminds of the rise of the “muffler man” in 2013.

BJP and AAP have won 40 and 19 seats respectively, as per the Election Commission. Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia have lost their seats while Atishi has retained.

The ECI data showed that BJP bagged 48 of the 70 assembly seats in Delhi, while the AAP ended up securing 22 seats.
