Delhi Chief Minister-designate Rekha Gupta will lead a team of six ministers, including Parvesh Sahib Singh, Ashish Sood and Kapil Mishra, in the 70-member Assembly.

Nearly one and a half weeks after winning the Delhi Assembly election on February 8, the Bharatiya Janata Party announced the name of the next Delhi Chief Minister on Wednesday. Rekha Gupta was chosen as the leader of the Delhi BJP Legislature Party in a meeting held at the state office on 14 Pant Marg.

A member of India's ruling Hindu-nationalist party was sworn in on Thursday as chief minister of Delhi after an election landslide handed it control of the capital for the first time in decades.

BJP MLA Rekha Gupta took charge as the ninth Chief Minister of Delhi at her Secretariat office here on Thursday. Earlier in the day, the first-time MLA from Shalimar Bagh was administered oath as the chief minister by Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena in a grand ceremony at the Ramlila Maidan. Her Council of Ministers were also sworn in.

The BJP that won in Delhi after 27 years, is set to end the suspense over the new Chief Minister today when it announces the name in its legislative party meeting.

Within hours of taking oath as the Chief Minister of Delhi, Rekha Gupta, along with her Cabinet colleagues, perform ‘Yamuna aarti’ at the city’s Vasudev Ghat. The party leaders then headed to the Delhi secretariat for the first Cabinet meeting.

The decision was made at a meeting of all newly-elected BJP MLAs at the party headquarters in New Delhi on Wednesday evening.
