Hurricane Melissa made landfall on Cuba this morning as an "extremely dangerous" Category 3 hurricane, the National Hurricane Center in Miami said.

Hurricane Melissa, a record-breaking Category 5 storm with winds up to 175mph, is rapidly approaching Jamaica, expected to make landfall early Tuesday.

The US-based group expects between 15in (38cm) and 30in (76cm) of rainfall to hit Jamaica, with extensive rain in Cuba and the south-eastern Bahamas, bringing "numerous landslides".
