China’s Buddhist regulator has promised to impose stricter discipline and supervision on the religion in the wake of the scandal surrounding the disgraced abbot of the Shaolin Temple.

"It has been repeatedly brought to the notice of higher authorities that issues of liberty of an individual must not be taken in such casual manner," justice Kathpalia said.
