Jim Ratcliffe, the billionaire co-owner of the soccer club, framed plans for the 100,000-seat venue as crucial to the British government’s plan to revive the northern English city.

Speaking about the stadium, Foster has said he hopes it will bring fans 'closer than ever' to the pitch and cultivate a 'huge roar' acoustically'. The stadium is projected to have three 200m high masts - which Lord Foster dubs 'the Trident' - which would be visible from 40km.
