South Carolina is home to multiple automotive-related manufacturers and suppliers. Perhaps most notable is German car maker BMW, which arrived in the early 1990s and has been a significant economic driver for the Greenville area. Its investment since then totals more than $12 billion after its push in recent years to expand EV production there.

An international car company will invest $280 million in a South Carolina facility to convert it to a “state-of-the-art” manufacturing plant that will create more than 700 jobs, officials said. Isuzu -- one of the world’s largest manufacturers of commercial trucks -- bought a one million-square-foot facility that sits on over 200 acres of property along Augusta Road in the Piedmont area of Greenville County.

Isuzu North America Corporation (Isuzu), a supplier of commercial vehicles, announced Wednesday that it has selected Greenville County to establish the company’s new production base in the United States.
