Verstappen wins US Grand Prix and McLaren’s Norris pulls closer to teammate Piastri in F1 title hunt
Red Bull’s Max Verstappen raced to his third victory in four races Sunday at the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix, while McLaren’s Lando Norris took a huge chunk out of teammate Oscar Piastri’s championship lead by finishing second.
Crashgate is the biggest cheating scandal in Formula 1 history. FIA inquiries subsequently found Renault bosses Flavio Briatore and Pat Symonds responsible and banned the former for life and the latter for five years, though French courts later overturned both penalties.
Norris now leads the way from team-mate Piastri by a solitary point with four rounds of the season remaining, while Verstappen is 36 points back from the Brit in P1. The four-time world champion did reduce the arrears by four points in Mexico, but that rate of progression will not be enough to topple the McLaren duo.
