El Paso County officials initially estimated the fire was 4,000 acres, but revised the size to 3,000 acres Thursday night.

A suspect has been arrested and accused in connection with a wildfire that ignited near the Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs.

The Meridian fire burned about 3,000 acres east of Schriever Space Force Base, officials with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office said about 6 p.m. Thursday. By 9:30 p.m., all evacuation notices were lifted in the area. The fire, which sparked at about 1 p.m., was 70% contained as of 9 p.m., the sheriff’s office said.
