ChatGPT-maker OpenAI has unveiled an artificial intelligence-powered web browser to challenge competitors like Google, which operates Chrome, the most popular browser in the world.

Meta has poached a key Google DeepMind researcher, in a sign that competition for talent in an emerging area of AI development is heating up.

It may come with all the drawbacks of Apple or Meta's headsets, but Samsung and Google say the Galaxy XR is really a stepping stone to AI glasses currently in development with eyewear brands Warby Parker and Gentle Monster. Those devices will rely on Google's AI assistant Gemini, which is also central to the experience on the Galaxy XR.

NotebookLM is a Google AI-powered research and writing tool that functions as a virtual research assistant. It allows users to help users summarize, extra and understand complex information from their own uploaded documents or from the internet or other sources.

First up, Samsung’s new Galaxy XR mixed reality headset. Available starting today for $1,799, the Galaxy XR is similar to Apple’s ( AAPL) Vision Pro and Meta’s Quest 3 in that it fully covers your field of view, but provides passthrough vision via its built-in external cameras.

Samsung Electronics released its Galaxy XR extended reality headset on Tuesday, counting on AI features from Google to propel it into the nascent and uncertain market of computing-on-your-face that is dominated by Meta and Apple.

Google has warned Gmail users to secure their accounts, adding passkeys and changing weak passwords. It has also warned that hackers are gaining access to those accounts using stolen credentials. The alarming increase in two-factor authentication bypasses makes this worse. No users should still rely on SMS for security.

Google Fi is introducing AI-enhanced audio, which should improve sound quality. The feature launches in November.
