As the summer holiday season gets going, families are being warned of measles outbreaks in many popular European destinations, with vaccination rates in the UK still far below what experts advise.

Measles has been on the rise for months. Last year was the worst for measles in Europe and Central Asia since 1997, with more than 120,000 cases reported across the region.

In the United States, more than 1,000 cases have been reported to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in 2025.
