An atmospheric river brought heavy rain, serious mountain snow and strong winds to California that flooded roads and rivers and triggered landslides – and more rain is on the way.

A series of atmospheric river storms caused flooding and landslides in Northern California, prompting evacuations and rescue operations.

KCRA 3 Weather meteorologist Dirk Verdoorn looks at how much rain and snow is expected to fall and when the winds will reach their peak in Northern California.

Forecasters are predicting this weekend’s storm to be similar to the winter weather that impacted central Pa. on Wednesday night and Thursday morning.

A weekend winter storm will bring biting temperatures and dump several inches of snow on areas from the Midwest to Northeast.

Meteorologist Dalencia Jenkins says it will be partly cloudy for the rest of Friday but there is an Impact Weather day for Saturday with snow and ice expected. There is a Winter Weather Advisory in place staring Saturday morning and lasting throughout the day and into the evening.

Icy roadways are impacting Thursday morning commuters after overnight freezing rain and leftover drizzles. A winter weather advisory remains in effect until 6 a.m. By midday, ice will thaw as temperatures rise to around 40 degrees.
