Young campers and a dad saving his family were among the dozens killed in the historic flash floods that tore through central Texas over the holiday weekend.
“It was like a stomach punch,” Alicia, who lives with her mom and daughters in Houston, Texas, tells PEOPLE exclusively over Zoom. “I mean, it’s heartbreaking already, but then it hits even harder. All these thoughts rush in at once — like, we know her. My kids play with her…”
Virginia Wynne Naylor, 8, was at Camp Mystic, a girls' summer camp with cabins along the river in a rural part of Kerr County, when the floods hit on July 4. Her family confirmed her death in a statement, referring to her as Wynne.
