Speaker Mike Johnson on Tuesday succeeded in a high-stakes House vote to pass President Donald Trump’s plan to fund the government into the fall, overcoming far-right opposition as the GOP scrambles to avert a government shutdown Friday at midnight.

House Republicans passed a stopgap bill Tuesday afternoon to fund the government until October and avert a potential government shutdown. The final vote on the bill legislation took place at 4 p.m. Eastern Time.

The bill puts significant pressure on Democrats in the Senate, whose votes will be needed in order to avoid a shutdown. The federal government runs out of money at the end of the day on Friday.
