NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory laid off 550 employees Tuesday, reducing the La Cañada Flintridge facility’s workforce by more than 10%. The cuts are part of a downsizing that has reduced JPL’s staff by roughly one-third over two years.
More layoffs are hitting JPL, the NASA research lab near Pasadena. People will begin getting their notices on Tuesday, Oct. 14.
The sun has become more and more active over the last 16 years, in a turn that surprised scientists and could affect space weather, NASA said.
