NTSB Chair Jennifer Homendy's comments came amid an ongoing row over The Wall Street Journal's unverified and selective reporting regarding a pilot’s alleged role in the Air India Flight 171 crash that killed 260 people.

It can take a year, or even longer, for authorities to issue a final report detailing the likely cause of an accident and offering recommendations to prevent similar incidents in the future

Authorities released a preliminary report on the Air India crash, following an investigation. The London-bound flight from Ahmedabad crashed minutes into the June 12 flight. Only one passenger of the 242 passengers and flight crew survived.
