Type X (XB) U-boats were a special type of German submarine (U-boat). Although intended as long-range mine-layers, they were later used as long-range merchant submarines, a task they shared with the Type IXD and Italian Romolo -class submarines.

The Type X submarine was a German submarine used for mine-laying, cargo transport, and espionage during World War II. It was armed with two torpedo tubes, 15 torpedoes, 66 naval mines, and a deck gun. Eight Type X submarines were built, and six were lost during the war. They had a surface speed of 16.4 knots and submerged speed of 7 knots.
