German submarine U-17 was a Type IIB U-boat of Nazi Germany's Kriegsmarine. It was built in Germaniawerft, Kiel, where it was laid down on 1 July 1935 and commissioned on 3 December 1935, under the command of Werner Fresdorf.

U-17 may refer to one of the following German submarines: SM U-17 (Germany) , was the lead ship of the Type U 17 class of submarines; launched in 1912 and served in the First World War until stricken on 27 January 1919

U17 is a class 206A submarine that is around 48 metres long, with a draught of 4.6 metres, and displaces roughly 500 tonnes when submerged. Submarines were mainly deployed in the North Sea and Baltic Sea, and then, later, after the conversion to the class 206 Alpha, in the Mediterranean as well.

Ex-U17 was commissioned into the Navy on 28 November 1973 and was mainly employed in the North and Baltic Sea areas until it was taken out of service on 14 October 2010. The submarine, which has a length of 48.49 metres, a width of 4.58 metres and a draught of 4.30 metres, weighs approximately 500 tons (before demilitarisation).
