2018年7月18日 · In 2016 a new electric passenger ferry started running and the car service ended. The old car ferry (not taking cars), is labeled “classic” in the timetable and the new electric passenger ferry is labeled “premium”. The only car service on Nærøyfjorden now is the Fjord2 ferry between Gudvangen and Kaupanger.

We drove the same route that you're contemplating on tourist route 55 along the Lustrafjord (after leaving Aurland).

We did not reserve any ferry trips in advance, even the one tourist ferry on the Geirangerfjord, which is an extremely popular route.

Our car rental did not allow taking the car on the ferry, so we rented on each side, which was quite easy as the car pickup/dropoff is right at the ferry. The crossing of about 2 hours was very relaxed and comfortable, and the roundtrip ticket inexpensive relative to flying.

I was told by the AutoEurope Car Rental rep that once in Sicily if the car was damaged or breaks down that I would be responsible for having the car returned to mainland Italy.

2021年9月4日 · As others have said there is a bridge onto Skye, or you can get the car ferry at Mallaig (book in advance if bringing a car - rentals cars are OK), or a tiny, historic car ferry at Glenelg (no advance bookings, operates Easter to October 10am to 5pm).

2015年8月18日 · If it were me, I'd drop the car off before taking the ferry. I rearrange my trip so I dropped in Ireland (rather than Northern Ireland) to save the out of country drop fee. You can take a ferry from Dublin or other locations, depending on what works best. You will save money by walking on to the ferry, a foot passenger is significantly cheaper.
