Virtually all birds have a series of elastic ligaments that connect their vertebrae to each other, presumably providing a measure of energy-saving due to elastic recoil. Yesterday, in the process of preparing the neck skeleton of an ostrich, I found a particularly nice example of the dorsal interspinal elastic ligament that runs between the spinous processes.
